Use of Spherical Targets with Best fit tool for fine registration

Hello all and thanks for your time. My question involves the use of a specific type of spherical lidar survey target, with the Emesent Hovermap system. Last year, a white paper was released by Emesent detailing a workflow which utilized spherical survey targets in conjunction with the "Best Fit" tool in Cloud Compare.

My question is, can I use the targets in the attached photos, as they are only half spheres, or will the spherical best fit tool only function well with true spheres?

You do not need full sphere’s, in fact when scanning from a single PoV there is almost never more than half a sphere captured from most scanners. In the past I have used best alignment across multiple spheres from different sensors and positions with typically <40% of each sphere visible from any one sensor
