Subsampling by minimal difference in a scalar field

Hi everybody!
I am working in civil engineerinng and have stumbled upon a problem when working with lidar data. I would like to subsample a point cloud based on the minimal height (Z) differential perscribed. For example I would like to delete all neighbouring points that differ less than 0.1m in the Z axis direction. Subsampling via scalar Z doesnt really work, due to the fact it "cleans up" on the basis of Z itself not the differences between points.
There should be a simple and elegant solution (civil 3D has it within smoothing) I just cannot figure it out :(
Hopefully you guys can help, cause the decision between working with 60Mb files in Civil and losing crucial points leaves a sour taste every time.
Thank you!
