Crashing when trying to align

Post by gielb »

I am having troubles trying to align two stls while the same method works for other stls.

The stls i'm trying to compare are 434kb and 30309kb. I have tried to align by selecting 4 points. I also tried to finely register since the two stls are already closely together but this also causes the program to crash. I've tried to:
enable farthest point removal
Reduce the final overlap to 80%
Simplify the "to be aligned" stl with 50%
Used nvidia control panel to run it on the integrated GPU of my laptop or the nvidia GPU

The program sometimes crashes after loading for a while getting to 60% or it fails after selecting the fourth point.

I'm using the version 2.14.alpha (64-bit) on windows 11
Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700H, 2400 MHz, 14 core('s), 20 logische processor(s)
RAM 32 GB
GPU GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU 8gb
Integrated Graphics Intel(R) iris Xe graphics (shared 14gb)

Thank you in advance

Hum, there's no reason for CC to crash...

Which mesh is the reference and which mesh is the 'to-be-aligned' entity? The large one or the small one?

And don't hesitate to share it with me, I might be able to fix the crash (you can send the data to admin@cloudcompare.org).
