I installed CloudCompare on Ubuntu with apt, and ran ccViewer.
I get a window saying "drop a file here"
Where is a sample file with some razzle-dazzle in it to drop there?
CloudCompare documentation seems to have kept the sample files carefully hidden

CloudCompare doesn't provide datasets. But CloudCompare can open various standard 3D file formats (asc, las, e57, ply, obj, stl, etc.). So you can find them in a lot of different places on the Internet, depending on your needs ;)
