Calculating area's

Hi

I wanted to compare the surface area of a point cloud which is of a rough surface, a rock wall, to that of its area if it were flat, I tried to draw lines and then create a mesh between them, but the lines weren't on the same plane so it is a little inaccurate. Is there a simpler way measure the area, or can I set the polylines on the same plane somehow.

The best way is probably to create a triangular mesh. Then you can compute its surface with CloudCompare.
