Saving a merged scan in CC and being able to re-open it

Hi All,
I am using CC for a project and am loading multiple scans of an area and stitching them together to get a larger area, we are using a small scale Faro scanner. When I go into CC and load the .fls files of the scans and stitch them together, I find that no matter what file type I use to save the new "image/scan" I cannot re-open the file. Any advice?

What error do you get when reopening the file? And which version are you using?
