Point cloud will not display, possibly due to graphics card?

Post by MyCLOUDCOMPAREID2019 »

First, thank you for all the work that has been put into creating and maintaining this awesome program. I am writing because I've used CloudCompare seamlessly in the past, albeit on a different computer, and everything worked great. That said, I'm currently using a different computer (Dell Precision 7520 with an Intel Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.8 GHz processor and Intel HD Graphics 630 graphics card) and am not having the same luck. Point clouds will load in the workspace/tree, but are not visible from any view as far as I can tell. My old machine had a NVIDIA graphics card and I am worried that my current machine's graphics card is limiting the machine's ability to visualized 3-D clouds in CloudCompare. Are there specific drivers I can install to circumvent this issue (if it is in fact the main issue)? I'm currently using CC version 2.10.2. Any advice would be much appreciated. Again thank you for all you do!

Yes, sadly Intel integrated chipset are badly supported because they are too old or have themselves a bad OpenGL support (and they are blacklisted by Qt, the framework on which CloudCompare is built).

In your case, if you do manage to start CloudCompare, then it may be indeed just an issue with the graphic card drivers (have you tried to update them?). Otherwise CC crashes right at the beginning ;)
