Point picking to scale

Hello, I am trying to use the point picking tool so that I can get a measurement to scale one of my models. When I select the model and the point picking tool, the console comes up (where it shows select single point, select 2 points, triangulate 3, etc) but when I click with my mouse I cannot pick a point. I mean no point appears as a colored dot with a label. I've run cloud compare on a different computer and did not have this problem. Can anyone help?

Is it maybe a computer with a 4K screen? (what type of computer by the way? And which version of CC are you using?)
