surface area calculation

In a previous question on calculating the surface area of the segmented point cloud. you answered as shown

You can try to segment the part with the scissors tool and then use the 'Tools > Fit > Facet' tool. It will fit a 'facet' element to the cloud, from which you can read the surface in its properties.

Oh, a "facet"' is a tesselated polygon that fits the cloud contours (this only works for 2.5D clouds). Then it's equivalent to a mesh, and the surface is simply the sum of the triangles areas.
