Uploading data from photoscan troubleshooting

Post by bmccracken »

Hi Daniel,

I've been having trouble just uploading my data to CloudCompare v.2 10-alpha. I've tried to upload my photoscan projects through the following forms (.psx, .pts, .las,) and a line is the only visible thing on the screen (screenshot attached). Some questions I had for you are:
1. Is there a specific point density or number of points at which the data needs to be in before it is transferred to CloudCompare?
2. What should my datasets contain in order to be visible on the screen? (ie. grain sizes/accuracies)
3. How should the two point clouds when paired together be delivered/in what format?

My main goal for this specific project is to compare how the banks of a river has changed from 2014 to today. Through this analysis, changes in the surface of a slide mass and along the river banks will be measured, indicating the sediment volume and rate at which the banks of the river have been undercutting the hillslope and transporting the sediment downstream. To calculate the volume of erosion, I was hoping to use CloudCompare software in comparing all the different data sets against each other. Earlier work at this site provided hypothetical estimates of likely total erosion volumes. This work aims to test those hypothetical estimates against actual measurements.

Thank you for your time!

This generally occurs when the data coordinate system is "weird". Like a coordinate system where X and Y are expressed as angles and Z is expressed in meters, or millimeters (especially if it's geolocalized).

You have to make sure the coordinate system is 'cartesian' before importing the data in CC.

(by the way, the official 2.10 version is out ;)
