Windows 10 64: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

Post by lgeis »

Greetings from Boise.

Finally get a chance to use CC...and surprise! Have never seen this before.

Windows 10 64 Pro, 10.0.16299, FX8370, 32GB RAM, GTX940 4GB, OS on SSD, everything is stock clocked, pagefile.sys is on a separate SSD

Try to launch (even Run as Administrator) and get the error:

"C:\Program Files\CloudCompare\CloudCompare.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
"

The application event ID is 33:

I have no useful familiarity with the Command Line and less than that with SideBySide....

Is there a solution?

This Side-by-side issue is clearly related to the Faro plugin... Do you need it? If no, you can reinstall CC without it (make sure the option is not checked in the installer). You can also more simple delete the 'CloudCompare.exe.manifest' file next to CloudCompare's executable in the installation folder.

If you need this plugin, then you should on the contrary re-install CC (with the option checked) just in case. And maybe re-install Scene if you have it installed on your side?

If this doesn't work, then don't hesitate to come back here ;)

Thank you so much for your guidance on this; it has to be the easiest fix I've ever run across. I simply deleted the CloudCompare.exe.manifest file and she fired right up!
