Re: Reduced once combined
Maybe your files get smaller when you save in other format because you loose the "scan grid" of the original .fls file. In my experience, this data makes the scans a lot heavier, so unless you are planning to use it, you are better off without it, since there is no loss in precision. As fa...

Re: According to a certain path
Have you tried using the CSF plugin? It generates a mesh and deforms it to try and find the "ground" of your point cloud. Then, it divides your point cloud in two parts according to an user defined distance threshold to this deformed mesh. Maybe with this you can easily cutout the ground a...

Re: CloudCompare 2020 Developers Training & Workshop
Is there any chance to record the event and publish it somewhere? I would not be able to go there, sadly... I'd gladly edit and upload the raw videos if anyone is willing to record ;)

Re: Anyone gotten good normals with FARO Freestyle?
Does the lsproj include a Grid data structure? What I usually do (at least with the stationary LiDARs) is generate a mesh with Edit > Grid > Mesh Scan Grids, then transfer the normals (much easier and faster to compute) from the mesh to the cloud, and then use the Poisson Reconstruction.

Re: How to capture the images and make figures?
Out of pure curiosity, as I often work as a UX/UI designer and I'm also currently translating CC, can I ask you what you thought about 'render to file' just from looking at the name? And what would you call the tool instead? Just asking, if you don't mind of course...

Re: How to capture the images and make figures?
If you're talking about capturing what you see in the 3d view, have you tried using the tool "Render to File" under the "Display" section of the menu bar?

Re: Octree/voxel- based analysis
Might be a little derpy lifehackz solution, but check "Distance Map" under Tools > Sandbox (Research) > Distance Map . It's not exactly the octree cube centers, but it might give you a result similar to what you are looking for. It's kind of a "rasterize tool but in 3D" , special...

Re: Structured vs. unstructured file formats
Additionally, if your scanner is a Trimble/FARO one, you can import the scans directly (if you installed the plugin for CC on Windows during the installation). This direct import preserves the structured "grid" as CC calls it. Even if you don't have access or want to work with the processe...

Re: Best scanner to use with CloudCompare
Pretty much anything, I think. Depends on your specific needs (budget, resources, speed of field and computation work, etc, etc.). You don't seem to even need a scanner and can even just start with photogrammetry, walking around taking pictures with your cellphone or instaling cameras around the pil...
