You are correct! All I had to do was the old trick: changed the extension from *.pts to *.xyz.

I am attempting to use the Poisson Surface Reconstruction Plugin. I load my cloud point file but the plugin is disabled.

Perhaps the underlying data must conform to certain attributes?

I am somewhat familiar with CAD programs (3DS Max, Maya, Blender) but this is the first point cloud file (*.pts) that I handle. It comes from a Leica P20 laser scanner.

I am looking for best practices for what seems to be the proper route:

point cloud ==> Mesh ==> CAD

This is the first time I deal with point cloud files. I received one, coming from a Leica Geosystems scanner which has 36,146,778 lines. When I read it with CloudCompare there are errors about the first 11 lines.
