Found the solution.
When you generate the 2D distance map (Surface of Revolution) in the Generatrix tab the Z value has to be 0, then the heights in the map will be apsolute.

Once again thank you for the quick fix. Is there a reason why the Surface of revolution analysis plug-in doesn't use absolute heights but instead the lower half of the tank has negative heights an the upper part positive. Is it possible to make an adjustment so that the bottom has the height of zero...
