I unticked "Try to load points on GPU.." option in Display settings and it helped alleviate the lagging problem, but didn't solve it. CC becomes progressively slower, but at a reduced rate. I am using the Linux version, if that helps.

I disabled the "Try to load clouds on the GPU" in the display settings and it solved the problem. Thanks! Just for reference, I am using Linux Ubuntu 14.04 and my graphic card is Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller.
